What is Vitiligo?

An orange illus 0.png

Vitiligo is a skin condition characterized by the loss of skin pigment, resulting in patches of skin that appear lighter or devoid of color. This happens due to the destruction of melanocytes, the cells responsible for producing melanin, the pigment that gives skin its color. The precise cause of vitiligo remains unclear, but it is believed to involve a combination of genetic, autoimmune, and environmental factors. While vitiligo is not contagious or life-threatening, it can significantly impact a person's self-esteem and emotional well-being, especially if the patches are prominent and visible.
